Is this race slipping away? A quick check of electoral-vote.com shows that as of the polls released yesterday, we are in exactly the same place we were four years ago: heading into the debates with the slimmest of leads over the GOP candidate. It's downright eerie just how similar the two races look.
But for a multitude of reasons, see best explanation here, I felt like even if the polls don't reflect it, we are in a FAR better position this year than four years ago. Plus, as I opined about earlier, Florida still has the potential to be a game changer ... that was until I turned on the XM satellite radio this morning and was blasted with the news of a Quinnipiac poll putting McCain up SEVEN points in the sunshine state.
So is all lost? Actually no. Because that same outfit put Obama up by FIVE in Ohio. Trust me, this is actually a more favorable result. (Why?) In Ohio, 750,000 eligible voters between 18 and 22 who could not vote in 2004 can vote in 2008. And, there are 860,000 eligible black voters. Only 380,000 voted in 2004. Remember ... Kerry only lost Ohio by only 120,000 votes.
If he is up by 5% points in Ohio, and GOTV and Voter Registration operations are still ongoing, this is a VERY good sign.
So don't hit the panic button yet.
UPDATE: If you're a Dark Horse fan ... well you can watch Obama on Letterman, and at 1:31 in he says "silly-season."
