Hat Tip Thursday

Belated tip of the cap to the University of Mississippi. Forty-six years ago yesterday, James Meredith became the first black student at the University of Mississippi. That same year, when the eyes of a nation were thrust upon the school known as "Ole Miss" in Oxford, Mississippi their all-white football team went undefeated and won a national championship. It would be their last.

Flash forward to last Friday. With McCain's debate status in doubt, the school was potentially facing the most embarrassing moment on the national stage since Governor Ross Barnett ordered the guards to prohibit Mr. Meredith from entering the university. But McCain came, the debate was a success for the school, and forty-six years after the school enrolled its first Black student, an African-American debated a white man with the Presidency of the United States at stake. Could it get any better? Yep. Hours later, the Rebels went into the Swamp and beat #4 ranked Florida, 31-30. All in all, a damn nice week for the school.

Tip of the cap to
Barack Obama's White Sox.

Tip of the cap to A.J. Pierzynski. All that peroxide and you still held onto the ball.

Tip of the cap to Leslie A. Wars. Are you kidding me? This woman (or angel) somehow singlehandedly registered 1,136 new voters in Pennsylvania, with a week still to go. Whats more amazing? Before this year she had never even voted.

Tip of the cap to Nate Silver. For two things.
First, for pointing out what many of us have already known for a long time, that RealClearPolitics is a printing press away from being the printed arm of "Fixed"/Faux News.
And second, for taking something that you are passionate about and turning it into a career. Well-played sir.

And last, but not least, tip of the cap to my wife. 3 years.
